Hello, and welcome to CSP's At Your Convenience podcast. I'm CSP editor Diane Adam, and I'm joined today by Dave Williams, president of Bump Williams Consulting. How are you today, Dave? I am doing fantastic. Thank you for asking.

Thank you, Dave. Can you walk us through the five keys, steps or takeaways that you have at a high level? Absolutely. And it's all about enhancement, not overhaul, right? I mean, this industry is one that's been around forever. It's going to hopefully be around forever. So it's not always about rapid change or massive change. It's more about staying in line with developments around to make sure that you're making the most of your set.

And the five keys that I covered were really growth initiatives was the first one. Basically, what are your strategies to grow in a sometimes contracting segment? What are the tactics you're going to employ and how do you work across the three-tier system to ensure alignment for those strategies? The other one is sort of that fourth tier to the three-tier of the consumer. What are they into? What are they looking for? They have the ultimate end users at the end of the day.

So if your strategies aren't in alignment with their spending habits, then it's going to be a non-starter. Emerging trends, I mean, that's a classic one, right? What's growing? What's hot? Not just what are the right categories or what are the right subcategories, but who are the leaders within as well when you think about efficiencies and share of segment. And it's getting into the specifics of the what and the who. The fourth one, the fourth key was really about, again, maximizing space.

So this is when it gets down to the efficiencies and it's tweaks, not overhauls. And we had some good conversation today about shifting from a pack size perspective, the whole pack type architecture conversation, paying attention to the fast movers, the velocity drivers, who's turning, who's justifying space, who warrants more, and who maybe doesn't deserve it right now for reasons A, B, and C. And then the final one is really just our estimate of what the future looks like and how companies

can enact tactics or how they should think about different approaches...
