Welcome to Check 6. We record today as the US kicks off the 4th of July weekend, so naturally we will look at what is happening in defense in the former occupying power. And with that we will also kick off what is basically going to be a month of heavy UK focus for Check 6. We've got the Global Air and Space Chiefs Conference coming up in London soon, and then of course we're heading out to the Farnborough Air Show with a lot of our colleagues invading us from the US.

Our two main topics for today, which are very much interlinked, will be where things stand on the Global Combat Air Program, GCAP, involving the UK, Italy and Japan, and the long-delayed, yet finally released UK Defense Investment Plan, or DIP as you'll hear us call it. And to bring your insights on both, I'm joined by Aviation Week London Bureau Chief Tony Osborne. Tony, it's great to have you here. Thank you. Looking forward to it.

It's been a fun week. We finally got the DIP, and GCAP was kind of a pretty central piece in that. So why don't you kick us off and talk a bit about how GCAP fared in the DIP? Yes, Brill. Thank you very much. So yes, I mean, we've been waiting a long time for this document, and maybe we'll just briefly talk about the convoluted route it took to get here, because we've been waiting for this basically since the publication of the Strategic Defense Review last June.

In fact, it was quite a big – in the media here for a while, there was sort of talk when this plan is still not here, even though it's a year after the Strategic Defense Review.
