This is Scott Becker with the Becker's Healthcare Podcast. I'm thrilled today to be joined by brilliant journalist and leader Jakob Emerson.

Jakob covers the payer side and does it better than anybody in the country. Jakob, usually you take us through a couple issues, stories that you're following. That's when we just set this up for our audience. What are you watching currently in the payer arena, the payer sector? What's top of mind currently? Yeah, for sure. Well, good to talk to you, Scott. It's been a while.

I thought today we could take things in a slightly different direction in terms of something that I actually went to in person last week, recording this at the end of June. And it led to a lot of, I would say, different stories or different insights that I can kind of detail for you. But I think it's important here because it's about UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealth Group, of course, the largest insurer in the country.

So often the ones, you know, kind of a bellwether for where the industry is going and really definitely the one I would say innovating within the industry often. And last week I was grateful I got to go to their corporate headquarters just outside of Minneapolis and meet with the vast majority of their senior executives, all the way up to the CEO of UnitedHealthcare and the CEO of Optum.

And then a lot of their division CEOs completely on the record and no topics barred in terms of what we were allowed to ask them. And then a full eight hour showcase all over the company and its multiple campuses, giving myself and a few other reporters a full tour on what the company is working on right now and kind of where it sees itself going as a business moving forward.

Fascinating. And talk to us a little bit about some of what you learned and heard when there. Yeah, definitely. And I think, you know, the context even was really fascinating for me because I think anybody operating within this industry knows that in the past, especially even maybe three, three year...
