In this episode, Aalo’s co-founder and CEO, Matt Loszak, returned to speak with me about the company’s experience in the DOE’s reactor pilot program. The conversation took a fascinating look at moving fast and building things—from sourcing materials to cultivating mindset.<br><br>We recorded this a few weeks ago in anticipation of Aalo’s success. What's up, everybody? Welcome back to Nuclear Barbarians. It is I, your nuclear barbarian, Emmet Penney, and I have a return guest, Matt Loszak of Aalo Atomics. This is about to be a big victory lap episode, so buckle up. How's it going, man? Happy to have you here. It's going great. It's going great. Lots of exciting things are happening. And yeah, thanks again for having me on.

Yeah, of course. So for those who don't remember, we talked, I think actually about this time last year, about what was about to go on with Aalo and this DOE pilot program and everything that was going on in the NRC. You just gave us the full readout, all those theory of the case for its SMR play. And now we're going to talk about sort of lessons learned over the course of that year as you guys hit your cold criticality.

That's what it's called, right? I'm getting that. I'm getting that correct. You're tickling the dragon, as you say. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So yeah, it's a, it's going to be a zero power criticality of a 10 megawatt scale system. And we're reaching that milestone first and then bringing it to full power operation soon thereafter. And we're going to put a data center right next to that. So once it's at full power producing electrons, we're going to power a co-located data center.

And we believe it'll be the world's first co-built and co-located nuclear plant and data center where they were kind of built side by side at the same time. Very sick, my friend. Okay. So I have a few questions just to sort of get people up to speed because, you know, some people have come into the nuclear barbarians fold since we've last...
