Today, I am joined by the Honorable Michael P. Duffey, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. In this role, he is responsible for all matters pertaining to acquisition, contract administration, logistics and material readiness, installations and the environment, the acquisition workforce, the defense industrial base, and several other areas.

Over the past two decades, Mr. Duffey has served in senior roles throughout the Pentagon, including Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense and Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. He also previously served as the Program Associate Director for National Security at the Office of Management and Budget, where he oversaw the entire $1 trillion national security budget for the United States government. Under Secretary Duffey, thank you for joining Cogs of War. Thank you, Jonathan, for having me.

You and I have met before a couple of months ago, I think it was, at the Schmidt AI Expo on stage where I interviewed you. And there's a question I've really been dying to know, which is that I asked you a bunch of questions at the time, but I ran through the questions too fast. And so I had about 10 minutes left on the shot clock and I made up a few questions at the end. Did you notice that or did that, did I pull that off? You pulled it off miraculously. I didn't notice it at all. No, well, you kind of gave me a little bit of a look. So I was like, maybe I really ruined it with this guy. Not at all.
