Welcome to this week's Check 6 Podcast. I'm Joanne Somo, Aviation Week's Editor-in-Chief. For the commercial aerospace industry, the story since the end of the COVID-19 crisis has been up, up, up. I met with dozens of people from across the industry at last week's Farnborough Air Show, and the talk was all about how demand is succeeding supply as the supply chain struggles to keep up. But my meeting with McKenzie and company leaders introduced a contrarian spin on that conventional wisdom.

The firm, in partnership with Aviation Week's research arm, pulled more than 150 aerospace leaders across airlines, airframe and engine OEMs, suppliers, MROs, and lessors. McKenzie's conclusion, airlines already are feeling a squeeze that has not registered in the rest of the industry. The question is not whether slowing growth is coming, it's whether the industry will recognize it in time to act. So I told them, we've got to do a podcast on this.

Joining me to break this down are two of the authors of the new McKenzie white paper, Is Commercial Aerospace Ready for a Demand Reckoning? Frank Coleman is a partner and co-lead of McKenzie's Aerospace and Defense Practice. And John Moore is an associate partner at McKenzie, specializing in commercial aerospace and industrial clients. Also joining us for the conversation is Aviation Week's Executive Editor for Business Coverage, Michael Bruno. So Frank, let's start with you.

How did you come up with this idea to do this research? It's a great question. And thank you all for having us on this podcast. We're really excited to be here to talk about this. I'm actually going to take us back about a year and a half or so.
