We're going to be discussing the major challenges facing the sector, including the prospect of Europe falling further behind the US and being overtaken by China on key metrics such as financing and bringing innovative new drugs to the market.

We will address those threats, but we'll also be very sure to focus on some of the big opportunities to build the next generation of biotech champions in Europe. Speaking of champions from Europe, I can't help but mention the Football World Cup, which recently concluded, I'm sure you noticed, in the US. And here's a stat for you. Of the last eight teams in the competition, six were European nations and of course Spain in most triumphant. England winning the slightly odd bronze medal position, proving that England, Europe,

Europe can be a world champions when you have the talent and the team work all lined up. Which leads me very nicely to my assembled panel here today, a talented European team, three outstanding leaders in the field. So allow me to introduce them. First is Dr Rafiq Hassan, CEO of Complement Therapeutics. Now, hi Rafiq. Hi, hi Andrew. Good, thanks for joining me. So let me tell you about Rafiq.

Rafiq joined Complement as CEO in 2022 after previously serving as the global head of ophthalmology at Bayer and Novatis separately. And he guided Complement through major funding rounds and clinical trials for its lead candidate CTX 001. It's gene therapy for geographic atrophy, secondary to age-related macular degeneration. And next is Tim von Hauermeyer, chairman and former CEO of Argenix. Hi Tim.
