Most people think they understand the dollar. When the dollar is going up, that's good. It must be strong America, good economy, good policy. The Federal Reserve is doing its job and investors are choosing America. And when it's down, that's gotta be bad. That's inflation and debasement and money printing. It's the end of dollar dominance and that famous dollar doom story. But what if all of that is completely backwards?

What if a rising dollar is not a sign of strength, but a warning signal? What if a dollar going up means global monetary conditions are getting tighter, markets are becoming more fragile, and foreign countries are scrambling to find dollars they desperately need? And what if a falling dollar, at least in many cases, is not the dollar being destroyed, but simply a sign that pressure is easing or that the global system is working how we want it to? How's that for a curveball? That's the part almost everyone misses.

Because the dollar's exchange value is not mainly about vibes. It's absolutely not the Federal Reserve and only occasionally interest rate differentials. And it's definitely not explained by the simple idea that America prints money, therefore the dollar must collapse. What drives the exchange value is much more mechanical. The euro dollar system and basic monetary economics. And we have the charts, the data, and the evidence to show you. If you don't understand the euro dollar system, you'll almost always read the dollar backwards.

So in this video, we're going to break down why the dollar exchange value does what it does. Why it goes up, why it goes down, why going up can be bad, why going down can be good, why governments sell the reserve assets, including U.S. Treasuries, and why that corresponds so strongly with the behavior of even dollar indexes like DXY.

Why sell treasuries, sell treasuries, dollar goes up, buy treasuries, dollar goes down. What does that mean? What are the mechanical processes that are involved here and how to interpret them so that you don't get caught with the dollar doom story that refuses to die? Understanding euro dollar mechanics is a great starting point for a whole lot more. And let's start with the explanation most people are given. The mainstream view says exchange rates are mostly about interest rates and especially central bank policy rates.

The Federal Reserve raises rates while, for example, the European Central Bank or Bank of Japan, Bank of England doesn't, then dollar assets supposedly become more attractive. And in reality, they do. Investors can supposedly earn more yield in dollars, so they buy dollars and the dollar goes up. And if the Fed cuts rates or another central bank's become more aggressive, the dollar somehow falls. And that explanation sounds clean and logical, and sometimes in limited situations, it does actually help explain part ...
