[SPEAKER_B] Lawmakers are looking at different ways to ease the burden at the pump, and one possible solution is a diesel export ban. Well, thanks for joining us today. I'm Hailey Bichlhop with Ag Day, and we're out of the office today. We're at Shawnee Mission Park in Kansas. Michelle Rook is in our South Dakota studios and she's looking at how a ban like this would actually work.

[SPEAKER_C] With the U.S. average price for diesel pushing to a record $6.51 on Monday, Congress and the administration are looking at ways to provide relief. Lawmakers have floated ideas including a federal gas tax holiday or a ban on diesel exports. But could Congress even get that legislation passed, or could it backfire without providing meaningful change in price. US diesel prices continue to hit new record highs with no end in sight.

[SPEAKER_D] Well, diesel fuel is already at a record high right now, and I continue to believe that it can still push higher.

[SPEAKER_C] That's because although reports indicate some crude oil is moving through the Strait of Hormuz, the problem is historically low refining capacity. It became a crisis with the Saudi Arabia pipeline closure and damage to Russia's oil refineries. Fueling talk of a ban on diesel exports.

[SPEAKER_E] It's the exports of diesel and gas right now responsible for our, for our high prices.

[SPEAKER_C] Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa have expressed openness to curtail exports.

[SPEAKER_E] But, you know, I think if Senator Thune pushed a bill that the sun would rise in the east from this point forward, I think the opposition party would, in this case the Democrats, it'd be the same way...
