Markets Start Second Half of Year After Blockbuster First Half

So, we kick off the second half of the year after putting in a great performance in the first half of the year. And even more realistically, what we did was we put in a good second quarter of the year. That carried the first half of the year, because the first quarter was a mess marked by the attacks on Iran and the push-up in oil prices. This morning started with some sell-off in semiconductors, which is to be noted because semiconductors gained 82 percent in the first six months of the year, marking its best first half since its inception in May of 2000. That's when we started keeping records. In the first six months of the year, the Dow climbed 8.9 percent, the S&P 500 up 9.6 percent, the NASDAQ up 12.8 percent, the Russell 2000 up 22 percent. Not too shabby. In fact, pretty damn good if you were to ask me. Now let's take a look at this morning. The S&P 500's up fractions, sitting at 7,506. The Dow is in record territory, up 0.25 percent, 52,467. The NASDAQ is break-even for the day, neither up nor down. And the Russell 2000 is up 0.5 percent, in record territory. Now, in the last three years, calendar years, '23, '24, '25, we talked a lot about tech and Magnificent Seven. The Magnificent Seven is underperforming in the first six months, which I think sets us up for a nice last six months of the year, as there has been some consolidation of valuations. The gold is up 1.69%, sitting at $4,106.
