I'm Jeff Cranmer, host of the BioCentury This Week podcast. Today, I'll speak with my colleagues on how stakeholders in the U.S. are responding to this challenge. We'll also discuss the next frontiers of federated learning in drug discovery and a banner week for biotech IPOs for biotechs raising more than $1.2 billion.

Okay, FDA is moving fast on an expedited IND pilot. Representative Auchincloss is pushing his vision for modernizing clinical trials in the U.S. And meanwhile, academic medical centers here in the States own many of the decisions that could speed the timelines for starting first in human clinical trials.

Simone, Selina, we've been talking a lot about first in human trials for a few months now. Where do you want to begin here? So, Jeff, thanks for the introduction. You know, I think maybe a year ago, I wrote a commentary and I made the point that because of what China's doing in clinical trials and first in human trials,

it could actually have just a massive impact, positive impact globally on expediting first in human studies, right? On just basically translational medicine. And I think that nowhere is that more clear than, you know, I wrote a piece last week about academic medical centers.
