Iran-US diplomacy, RAF Fairford and Brazil elections

Reuters World News

Hi, I'm Mindy Burrows in London. It's Sunday, September 27th. Today, Iran pushes diplomacy after Trump rejects its Hormuz peace plan. Brazil takes a controversial measure to keep criminal influence out of elections. And luxury carmaker Bentley tests wealthy buyers' appetite for going electric with its new SUV.

This is Reuters World News, bringing you everything you need to know from the front lines in 10 minutes, 7 days a week. We begin in the UK, where police have arrested several men on suspicion of explosives offences near an airbase used by the US Air Force.

Homes near RAF Fairford have been evacuated and an army bomb disposal team is examining multiple vehicles. Local media says counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation. The base has long been used by the US Air Force, most recently to strike Iranian missile sites. Stay across developments on this story on the Reuters app or Reuters.com. In the Middle East, Iran is insisting diplomacy is the only way out of its conflict with the US and Israel,

after President Donald Trump says he rejected Tehran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end fighting. They want to make a deal where they open the Strait immediately because they're losing so badly. You know, you don't read that or you don't see that in the fake news. But we're winning tremendously. We have total control of the Hormuz Strait. Iran says it's still waiting for an official US response through mediators.

Over in the US, the Trump administration is set to finalise sharply lower fuel economy standards for new cars and trucks on Monday, rolling back Biden-era rules aimed at boosting efficiency and electric vehicles.
