This is your last pod for a few weeks as Scott is selfishly going on holiday, sorry. There’s no guest this week, which gives the lads the opportunity to dive a bit deeper into the news. They start by assessing the significance of a Huawei announcement that it has invented a new way of making semiconductors, which could have the broader significance of making China more resilient in its tech cold war with the US. They eventually move on to discuss falling headcount at VodafoneThree before concluding with a look at the EU’s protectionist dilemmas.

But even NVIDIA will be constrained, obviously, by not being able to do that. And when you said those expressions, geometric scaling and time scaling, geometric scaling is basically like cramming more transistors into the same area. That's basically what they're meaning by that. It's making things happen quickly. Time scaling, yeah, exactly. It's like making the whole thing, it's almost like a latency thing, yeah? If you can make the chip, design it more efficiently and allow it to process faster, it is almost like a latency.

You know, people talk about, in Telecom, not having your base station too far away if it's only got a radio on it from where the computing happens, because you don't want that distance to be too great because of the speed of light and everything. I mean, this is obviously on a micro, microscopic level with chips, but it's almost like the same thing.

So they're saying if you can sort of speed up processes in the circuitry, you can get to, I think this is what they said in their press release, you can sort of get to an equivalent of 1.4 nanometer capability. Even though you don't have chips that are designed like that, you can get to, you can produce the same kind of computing capability in a different way by just basically making it a lot more efficient.
