Welcome to today's podcast. Our title for today is Therapeutic Applications in MASHLD and MASH. My name is Anissa Redeker and I'm a transplant pharmacist at the University of Chicago.

My name is Annie Ganan. I'm a transplant dietician at the University of Chicago. And I am Sabrina Sanchez. I'm a pharmacist at the University of Chicago as well. So just for everyone's information, off-label treatments will be included in this discussion. And we have listed our disclosures on this slide.

For today's objectives, we will work to identify the epidemiologic trends and metabolic factors driving the rising presence of MASHLD and MASH. We'll explain the physiological mechanism of glucagon and incretin receptor signaling and how pharmacotherapies such as GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP-GLP-1 receptor agonists

modulate metabolic pathways relevant to MASHLD and MASHLD and MASHLD and MASHLD and evaluate when to integrate pharmacotherapy such as GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP-GLP-1 receptor agonists and resmediram for optimal patient outcomes.

Okay, so let's get started. Today, as we've kind of alluded, we're going to be diving into a critical topic. And that affects approximately 38% of people worldwide and about 70% of patients living with type 2 diabetes. And that's metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, otherwise known as MASHLD and formerly known as NAFLD.

That's right. And what makes this especially timely is that we now have FDA-approved pharmacologic options specifically for MASHLD for a metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, the progressive form of MASHLD. We're talking about both incretin-based therapies and the first-ever liver-directed therapy, RISMETEROM.
