This week we've seen Canada, Mexico, the US move on to the round of 16. It is not what we expected that all three host countries in this year's World Cup would advance to this stage. What we did expect is Canada and Mexico to express interest in extending the USMCA-KUSMA agreement, but the US to say, I'm not so sure. That's exactly what has happened this week.

Now, where do we go from here? What happens next? Are we in this perpetual annual review for the next 10 years till 2036 as all three countries look to find something that they can actually agree on some of the more contentious issues? And where does agriculture fit in all this? That's one of the absolute keys as we have seen and we have heard so much from agriculture in all three countries saying, you know what, do no harm.

We're happy with the agreement. We have some issues to sort out. We have some issues that we need to deal with. Canadian dairy, Mexico's treatment of corn traits, all of this fits into, we can make that work. It's not, they're not bad enough to tear up the agreement for the detriment of the agricultural economies for all three countries.

There is a lot of preoccupation though with automobiles, steel and aluminum and some other factors. So in a week where the unexpected has happened at the World Cup, the expected has happened on the trade file and we'll break it all down today on the Real Ag Issues panel on Real Ag Radio.
