The US military attacked Iran for a second day and Tehran retaliated against American allies in the Persian Gulf, raising fears of a return to war after little progress in efforts to secure a diplomatic outcome. US Central Command said on X about 90 targets were hit overnight — after 80 the previous day — “to further degrade” Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran reported strikes on the perimeter of a nuclear power plant and two railway bridges connecting the capital to the city of Mashhad, where former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is being buried on Thursday. There are questions about whether we are back at war with Iran, and we may not be able to answer them today, but we're going to do our best with an update coming up from the White House. Becca Wasser is going to join us from London with the options that are now facing the president, who is back home. He's got a a bunch of events on his schedule. None of them are open to the press, mostly things described as signing time and executive time. But if he does emerge, of course, we'll be talking about it with our eyes on the markets here.
