Aloha everyone, it's another exciting episode of The Daily AI Show. It's episode 703 and it is April 15th, 2026. I am joined today by Andy and I am Jyunmi and we're going to cover all of the AI news and again, if you see this face, you're going to talk about AI and science. So let's start off, Andy, what is the top news that you've got for today?

The big news is the update to the Claude desktop model, which now adds a full terminal inside the code tab on the Claude desktop. So I haven't tried it. I mean, I woke up this morning and saw about that. There's some back and forth on X. There's a release that happened sometime yesterday while I was doing my taxes, I'm sure.

And what the video showed that I think Anthropic put out is pretty much a full IDE in that tab on the desktop. It's basically, you know, a fairly complete and multi-agent session process handled by the desktop application.

And not, not at all like you would have in the terminal itself where Claude code actually is living inside somebody else's interface. But now Claude code has its own interface, but which includes a terminal and multiple terminals if you want. So it's a very interesting direction that I think challenges cursor and other IDEs like that.

So I think something I'm going to experiment with today. It does require that you update the Claude code desktop. So just go to, you know, the at the top left, if you're on Mac OS, just go to the Claude thing and go to update, you know, the check for updates and update your app. Restart it.

And then you'll see this new interface that presents as before you had in the upper center of Claude desktop, you had chat, co-work and Claude code. Now that's in the sidebar. So then there's three small icons for chat, co-work and Claude code. And when you click on Claude code, you get a totally different experience. That's a full IDE that pops up.

And there was somebody on X who said, it looks more technical than the terminal. And I think that's something, you know, which was just possibly, you know, similar to the experience I would have when long ago, Karl would demonstrate cursor on on the desktop. And you go, wow, there's a lot on that screen as there is with an IDE and integrated development environment. Anyway, that's big news from my perspective.

So, so I have a couple of follow ups. The main one being Claude or Anthropic hasn't always released everything on all platforms. So is this a, this is a desktop update, but is it only for Mac OS, but is it their desktop for Windows as well? I'm sure it's for all of them. I, but I, but I don't know. I just, I did not see anything saying this is Mac OS only.

Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. So by including a terminal interface, like you said, making a, making a full IDE, are they, you think this is part of going away from having just the CLI or just the terminal interface? So that's, you can have it in the desktop.
